1.122 In 2001, following a recommendation of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the General Assembly, in its resolution 56/138, requested the Secretary-General to conduct an in-depth study on the question of violence against children.

At its fifty-sixth session, the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to conduct an in-depth study on the question of violence against children and to submit to the Assembly at its fifty-seventh session a report on the rights of the child, containing information on the status of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Optional Protocols thereto (resolution 56/138).
وفي الدورة السادسة والخمسين، طلبت الجمعية العامة إلى الأمين العام إجراء دراسة متعمقة بشأن قضية العنف ضد الأطفال وأن يقدم إلى الجمعية العامة في دورتها السابعة والخمسين تقريرا عن حقوق الطفل يتضمن معلومات عن حالة اتفاقية حقوق الطفل والبروتوكولين الاختياريين الملحقين بها (القرار 56/138).

It was therefore necessary to have consistent and ongoing dialogue on the issue of violence against children.

This first global report on the issue of violence against children will undoubtedly strengthen the efforts and progress already realized on the subject.

(c) To request the Secretary-General to conduct an in-depth study on the question of violence against children, taking into account the outcome of the special session of the General Assembly on children, and to put forward recommendations for consideration by Member States for appropriate action, including effective remedies and preventive and rehabilitative measures;

In the context of the Secretary-General's ongoing in-depth study on the question of violence against children (A/RES/56/138) and the related questionnaire to Governments, the Committee acknowledges with appreciation the written replies of the State party and its participation in the Regional Consultation for West and Central Africa held in Mali from 23 to 25 May 2005.
264- وفي إطار دراسة الأمين العام المتواصلة المتعمقة عن قضية العنف ضد الأطفال ((A/RES/56/138 والاستبيان ذي الصلة الموجه إلى الحكومات، تنوه اللجنة مع التقدير بالردود الخطية التي تلقتها من الدولة الطرف على هذا الاستبيان ومشاركتها في المشاورة الإقليمية لغرب ووسط أفريقيا، المعقودة في مالي في الفترة من 23 إلى 25 أيار/مايو 2005.

859. In the context of the Secretary-General's in-depth study on the question of violence against children and the related questionnaire to Governments, the Committee acknowledges with appreciation that the State party hosted the Regional Consultation for East Asia and the Pacific, from 14 to 16 June 2005 and that it has submitted its written replies to the questionnaire.

73. His delegation commended the efforts of the independent expert to gather reliable information on the issue of violence against children and urgently called upon the international community to strengthen its efforts to build a world truly fit for children.
73- وبين أن وفده يشيد بالجهود التي يبذلها الخبير المستقل لجمع معلومات موثوقة عن قضية العنف ضد الأطفال ويلح على المجتمع الدولي بأن يعزز جهوده لبناء عالم لائق فعلاً بالأطفال.

Past and present Committee members participated in the regional consultations and other meetings relating to the study, and in light of the fact that the Committee has considered the issue of violence against children in its review of the reports of the States parties to the Convention, the independent expert conducted an analysis of the Committee's concluding observations in this regard.
وشارك أعضاء اللجنة السابقون والحاليون في المشاورات الإقليمية والاجتماعات الأخرى ذات الصلة بالدراسة، ولما كانت اللجنة قد نظرت في قضية العنف ضد الأطفال في استعراضها تقارير الدول الأطراف في الاتفاقية فإن الخبير المستقل قد أجرى تحليلا للملاحظات الختامية للجنة في هذا الصدد.

In addition, it welcomed the holding by the Committee of a day of general discussion next September on violence within the school and the family and the Committee's recommendation to the Secretary-General to conduct an in-depth study on the issue of violence against children.

On 24 November 2004, the independent expert held consultations on the issue of violence against children with Alvaro Gil-Robles, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe; Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe; the Committee of Ministers' Deputies and the Directorates General of the Council of Europe.
8- وفي 24 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2004، أجرى الخبير المستقل مشاورات بشأن قضية العنف ضد الأطفال مع الفارو جيل - روبليس، مفوض حقوق الإنسان لمجلس أوروبا؛ ومود دي بوير - بوكيشيو، نائب الأمين العام لمجلس أوروبا؛ ولجنة نواب الوزراء والمديريات العامة لمجلس أوروبا.

In that regard and on the basis of article 45 (c) of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Chairperson of the Committee sent, on 12 October 2001, a letter to the Secretary-General (see A/56/488) requesting him to undertake an in-depth study on the issue of violence against children.

In their reports to the Commission in 2004 and 2005, a number of special procedures paid particular attention to the issue of violence against children while others, including the Special Rapporteur on the right to food, have drawn a link between children affected by hunger and hunger-related diseases and the denial of their right to food, health and life (see E/CN.4/2005/47).
