The Syrian Arab Republic recently informed the Secretariat that it would follow its previous practice and would agree to only a six-month extension of the mandate of UNDOF, that is to say, until 31 December 2011.

The Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Edmond Mulet, briefed the Council on 23 June 2011. He expressed concern about the events that had occurred in the area of operations of UNDOF on 15 May and 5 June.
