She congratulated Ms. Kwaku on her appointment as Rapporteur of the Committee, and noted that Christine Kapalata had taken on an assignment as Political Affairs Officer for the United Nations Mission in Liberia, where she would make a significant contribution to the achievement of the Mission's mandate, as well as support the implementation of the Convention within the framework of her new duties.

1. At the 1st plenary meeting of its twenty-third special session, on 5 June 2000, the General Assembly established an Ad Hoc Committee of the Whole of the twenty-third special session and elected Ms. Christine Kapalata (United Republic of Tanzania) Chairperson by acclamation.
1 - أنشأت الجمعية العامة، في جلستها العامة الأولى لدورتها الاستثنائية الثالثة والعشرين، المنعقدة يوم 5 حزيران/يونيه 2000، لجنة جامعة مخصصة للدورة الاستثنائية الثالثة والعشرين وانتخبت بالتزكية السيدة كريستين كابالاتا (جمهورية تنزانيا المتحدة) رئيسة لها.

20. At its 5th meeting, on 20 April, the Preparatory Committee elected Christine Kapalata of the United Republic of Tanzania Chairperson by acclamation to replace Roslyn Ruth Asumwa Odera (Kenya), who was unable to complete her term as Chairperson.
