Article 4, paragraphs 2 (a) - (d), contain key provisions of the Basel Convention pertaining to ESM, waste minimization, and waste disposal practices that mitigate adverse effects on human health and the environment:

When applying destruction as the method of disposal, it is of utmost importance to comply with the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal and dispose of assets containing hazardous waste in the most environmentally friendly manner.
وفي حالة التصرف في الأصول عن طريق تدميرها، يكون من المهم للغاية الامتثال لاتفاقية بازل المتعلقة بمراقبة حركة النفايات الخطرة عبر الحدود وبالتخلص منها، والتصرف في الأصول التي تحتوي على نفايات خطرة بأكثر الطرق سلامة من الناحية البيئية.

The Act implements Australia's obligations under the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal (`Basel Convention').

7. While in Geneva, the Special Rapporteur also had a very fruitful consultation with the Executive Secretary of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal (the Basel Convention) and members of her staff on how to ensure continued constructive collaboration and exchange of information between the two mechanisms.

69. The United Nations Environment Programme cites concerns that Israel illegally transfers hazardous and toxic wastes generated inside Israel into the West Bank, thereby violating the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal.

9. With regards to Multilateral Environment Agreements, the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposaland the Amendment to the Convention has been analysed in several reports together with other international and regional instruments such as the Bamako Convention (see in particular E/CN.4/1996/17, paragraphs 29-70; E/CN.4/1997/19, paragraphs 79-81 ; and

ECLAC has been urging regional implementation of both the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal and General Assembly resolution 44/226 of 22 December 1989 on traffic in and disposal, control and transboundary movements of toxic and dangerous products and wastes.
