Regular monitoring of national population policies has been a continuing activity of the Population Division of the Department for Economic and Social Information and Policy Analysis of the United Nations Secretariat.

٣٩١ - وتقيدا باﻷحكام المذكورة أعلاه، اضطلعت شعبة السكان التابعة لادارة المعلومات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية وتحليل السياسات في اﻷمانة العامة لﻷمم في المتحدة بمسؤولية التنسيق بين عمليات التقييم اﻷربع التي تم الاضطلاع بها.

In accordance with the above provisions, the Population Division of the Department for Economic and Social Information and Policy Analysis of the United Nations Secretariat has had the responsibility for coordinating the four assessments that have been undertaken.
٣٩١ - وعملا باﻷحكام المذكورة أعلاه، اضطلعت شعبة السكان التابعة لادارة المعلومات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية وتحليل السياسات في اﻷمانة العامة لﻷمم في المتحدة بمسؤولية التنسيق بين عمليات التقييم اﻷربع التي تم الاضطلاع بها.

Within the United Nations, the Population Division of the Department for Economic and Social Information and Policy Analysis of the United Nations Secretariat is responsible for conducting and reporting on the monitoring of population trends and policies biennially, in collaboration with other units, bodies and organizations of the United Nations system.
٣٨٦ - وضمن اﻷمم المتحدة، تعتبر شعبة السكان التابعة لادارة المعلومات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية وتحليل السياسات في اﻷمانة العامة لﻷمم المتحدة مسؤولة عن إجراء الرصد للاتجاهات والسياسات السكانية كل سنتين والابلاغ عن ذلك، بالتعاون مع الوحدات والهيئات والمؤسسات اﻷخرى في منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة.

Technical cooperation activities in the field of population, previously the responsibility of the former Department of Technical Cooperation for Development, had been incorporated into the work programme of the Population Division of the Department for Economic and Social Information and Policy Analysis, formerly the Department of International Economic and Social Affairs, of the United Nations Secretariat.
كما أحيطت اللجنة علما بأن أنشطة التعاون التقني في ميدان السكان، التي كانت فيما مضى مسؤولية الادارة السابقة للتعاون التقني ﻷغراض التنمية، قد أدمجت في برنامج عمل شعبة السكان التابعة لادارة المعلومات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية وتحليل السياسات، التي كانت تسمى فيما مضى إدارة الشؤون الاقتصادية والاجتماعية الدولية التابعة لﻷمانة العامة لﻷمم المتحدة.

(d) To further improve communication and coordination among the Population Division of the Department for Economic and Social Information and Policy Analysis of the Secretariat, the regional commissions and Governments, particularly in order to prepare the most accurate population estimates and projections possible, an activity in which the Population Division should continue to play a leading role;
)د( زيادة تحسين الاتصال والتنسيق بين شعبة السكان التابعة لادارة المعلومات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية وتحليل السياسات باﻷمانة العامة، واللجان الاقليمية والحكومات، وخاصة من أجل إعداد أدق ما يمكن من التقديرات والاسقاطات، وهو نشاط ينبغي أن تواصل فيه شعبة السكان القيام بدور قيادي؛

4. At the 8th meeting on 13 October, an introductory statement was made by the Director of the Division for Macroeconomic and Social Policy Analysis of the Department for Economic and Social Information and Policy Analysis on the item as a whole as well as sub-item (j) (see A/C.2/48/SR.8).
٤ - في الجلسة ٨، المعقودة في ١٣ تشرين اﻷول/اكتوبر، أدلى مدير شعبة تحليل سياسات الاقتصاد الكلي والسياسة الاجتماعية التابعة لادارة المعلومات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية وتحليل السياسات ببيان استهلالي بشأن هذا البند ككل، فضلا عن البند الفرعي )ي( )انظر A/C.2/48/SR.8(.

The provisions reflect a resource growth of $1,198,900, or a 2.8 per cent increase for the Department for Policy Coordination and Sustainable Development and $1,426,500 or 3.0 per cent for the Department for Economic and Social Information and Policy Analysis and a decrease in resources of $736,400 or 2.7 per cent for the Department for Development support and Management Services, as compared with 1996-1997 appropriations.
وتعكس الاعتمــادات نموا فــي الموارد قــدره ٩٠٠ ١٨٩ ١ دولار، أي زيادة قدرها ٢,٨ في المائة ﻹدارة تنسيق السياسات والتنميــة المستدامة، ومبلــغ ٥٠٠ ٤٢٦ ١ دولار أي نسبة ٣ في المائة لادارة المعلومات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية وتحليل السياسات، ونقصانا في الموارد قدره ٤٠٠ ٧٣٦ دولار أي ٢,٧ في المائة ﻹدارة خدمات الدعم واﻹدارة من أجل التنمية، وذلك بالمقارنة باعتمادات الفترة ١٩٩٦-١٩٩٧.
