That is why it continues to hope that the efforts of the International Mediation Committee will offer the Congo a chance for lasting peace, and for a transition managed jointly by the various political forces of the country so that our people can freely elect its President.

The Congo therefore awaits with interest and impatience any action that might be taken in response to the request by the International Mediation Committee, headed by President Omar Bongo, Head of State of Gabon - a request which I firmly support - for the deployment of an inter-African peacekeeping force and, in particular, for:
وينتظر الكونغو باهتمام وتلهف كل ما يمكن القيام به في روح الطلب المقدم من لجنة الوساطة الدولية التي يرأسها رئيس دولة غابون، الرئيس عمر بونغو، وأؤيد بشدة هذا الطلب بإنشاء قوة أفريقية مشتركة لصون السلام وبخاصة فيما يتعلق بالجانبين التاليين:

However, this progress could not have been achieved without the untiring efforts of the leaders of the region, and, in particular, the International Mediation Committee and the International Monitoring Committee, which, with the support of UNDP, have played a crucial role in stabilizing the situation in the country following the three mutinies of 1996.

He applauded the work of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Liberia and Sierra Leone, as well as the efforts of the International Mediation Committee in the Republic of the Congo, chaired by the President of the Gabonese Republic, which would continue to support the process of peace and reconciliation under way in that country.
وأشاد باﻷعمال التي قامت بها الجماعة الاقتصادية لدول غرب أفريقيا في ليبريا وسيراليون، فضلا عن جهود لجنة الوساطة الدولية في جمهورية الكونغو، برئاسة رئيس الجمهورية الغابونية، التي ستواصل دعمها لعملية السلام والمصالحة الجارية في ذلك البلد.

Considering the seriousness of the situation in the Republic of the Congo and the imperative need to end the violence plaguing that country, the Committee fully supports the appeal made to the Security Council by His Excellency El Hadj Omar Bongo, President of the Gabonese Republic and head of the International Mediation Committee, for the deployment of an intervention force in that country.
٤٠ - نظرا لخطورة الحالة بجمهورية الكونغو وللحاجة الماسة ﻹنهاء العنف الذي يمزق هذا البلد فإن اللجنة تؤيد تأييدا تاما النداء الذي وجهه إلى مجلس اﻷمن صاحب الفخامة الحاج عمر بونغو رئيس الجمهورية الغابونية ورئيس لجنة الوساطة الدولية من أجل نشر قوة للفصل بهذا البلد.

Here again it must be recalled that the combined efforts of the United Nations and the OAU and the lucid and commendable actions of President El Hadj Omar Bongo, President of the Gabonese Republic and also of the International Mediation Committee, have, unfortunately, not managed to find a political way out of this grave internal crisis, the prolongation of which is a serious threat to peace in the subregion and the continent.
وهنا أيضا يجب أن نشير إلى أن ما بذلته اﻷمم المتحدة ومنظمة الوحـــدة اﻷفريقية من جهود متضافرة، وما قام به الرئيس الحاج عمر بونغو، رئيس جمهورية غابون، من أعمال تتسم بوضوح الرؤية وتستحق الثناء، وكذلك ما بذلته لجنة الوساطة الدولية من جهود، لم يفلح لسوء الحظ في إيجاد مخرج سياسي لهذه اﻷزمة الداخلية الحادة، التي يشكل استمرارها تهديدا خطيرا للسلام في منطقة جنوب الصحراء الكبرى وفي القارة.

President Pascal Lissouba agreed with President Omar Bongo, President of the International Mediation Committee, on a plan for the country to be run by a presidential college composed of the incumbent President of the Republic and three Vice-Presidents. But many Congolese saw in this proposal an effort at power-sharing among those individuals vying for power in the Congo and, hence, an end to the war.
فلقد اتفق الرئيس باسكال ليسوبا مع الرئيس عمر بونغو، رئيس لجنة الوساطة الدولية على خطة تقضي بأن تدير البلد جماعة رئاسية مكونة من رئيس الجمهورية الحالي وثلاثة نواب للرئيس، لكن كونغوليين كثيرين رأوا في هذا الاقتراح محاولة لتقاسم السلطة فيما بين اﻷفراد المتنافسين على السلطة في الكونغو ومن ثم نهاية للحرب.
