The Commission keeps under constant review the classification of duty stations according to conditions of life and work for approximately 600 duty stations, including climate, security, health, education, isolation, local conditions and housing.

It also relates to the concept of the “right to live”, i.e. to “the right of everyone to an adequate standard of living for himself and his family, including adequate food, clothing and housing, and to the continuous improvement of living conditions”, as stated in article 11 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
