2. The Group would welcome clarifications with regard to the code of conduct for judges of the United Nations Dispute Tribunal and the United Nations Appeals Tribunal proposed by the International Justice Council (A/65/86), with a view to its speedy adoption.

Under the terms of draft resolution I, the General Assembly would approve the code of conduct for the judges of the United Nations Dispute Tribunal and the United Nations Appeals Tribunal, as set out in the annex to the draft resolution.

To that end, the code of conduct for the judges of the United Nations Dispute Tribunal and the United Nations Appeals Tribunal should be adopted, as it would set standards for the judges and staff of the two Tribunals and would also foster greater confidence in the internal justice system.

68. The Secretary-General notes that the proposed selection criteria for the judges of the United Nations Dispute Tribunal and the United Nations Appeals Tribunal are not only comparable to those of other administrative tribunals, but would indeed be set at a higher standard, thereby ensuring the quality and professionalism of the new system.
68 - ويشير الأمين العام إلى أن معايير الاختيار المقترحة لقضاة محكمة الأمم المتحدة للمنازعات ومحكمة الأمم المتحدة للاستئناف ليست مشابهة فحسب لمعايير المحاكم الإدارية الأخرى، بل إنها بالفعل تعلو عليها من حيث المستوى، مما يكفل توفر الجودة والمهنية في النظام الجديد.

At its sixty-sixth session, the General Assembly, recalling its resolution 62/228, approved the code of conduct for the judges of the United Nations Dispute Tribunal and the United Nations Appeals Tribunal (resolution 66/106).

The Council further recommends that the appropriate rank for judges of the United Nations Appeals Tribunal should be that of Under-Secretary-General and for judges of the Dispute Tribunal, that of Assistant Secretary-General, while recognizing that this is a policy decision for the General Assembly (A/68/306, paras. 63 to 65).
