In order to allow for more thorough discussion of and more open consultation on the issue, the sponsors had amended the format of the draft resolution, which remained general in scope and which took a more forward-looking approach that focused on current developments; thus, it made reference to the financial crisis and to the appointment of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on violence against children.
