The judicious use of these instruments through cooperation and the concerted rationalization of activities could contribute considerably to the implementation of development strategies and plans adopted by the higher organs of the OAU for the benefit of the continent and the attainment of the objectives set out in the Abuja Treaty establishing the African Economic Community.

In addition to political issues, the meeting concentrated on the outcome of the first meeting of OAU and the African Economic Community (AEC) Ministers of Trade, in particular regarding Africa’s position with respect to the implementation of the Uruguay Round agreements and the outcome of the second ordinary session of the Economic and Social Commission of AEC.
