In paragraph 36 of decision 25/5, the Governing Council requested the Executive Director to update the 2008 report entitled The Global Atmospheric Mercury Assessment: Sources, Emissions and Transport.

Based on 2005 estimates, about 10 per cent of the total global emissions of mercury to the atmosphere originate from the manufacture of cement, with around 74 per cent of this amount emitted in Asia.*/

Each Party with sources of emissions of mercury to the atmosphere from the categories listed in Annex F which exceed the relevant capacity threshold set out in that Annex shall develop and implement a national action plan to reduce the emissions of mercury from those sources.
