At its fifty-sixth session, the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to submit to the Assembly at its fifty-seventh session an interim report on the activities undertaken in preparation for the International Year of Freshwater, 2003 (resolution 56/192).

The status of the Subcommittee on Water Resources is currently under review as part of the reform of the machinery of the Administrative Committee on Coordination as a whole. The activities in support of the International Year of Freshwater will be carried out by relevant entities of the United Nations system in collaboration with Governments, the private sector and nongovernmental organizations.
وأن مركز اللجنة الفرعية المعنية بموارد المياه العذبة التابعة للجنة التنسيق الإدارية قيد المراجعة حاليا كجزء من عملية إصلاح آلية لجنة التنسيق الإدارية ككل، وستقوم بتنفيذ الأنشطة الداعمة للسنة الدولية للمياه العذبة الكيانات ذات الصلة في منظومة الأمم المتحدة بالتعاون مع الحكومات والقطاع الخاص والمنظمات غير الحكومية.
