UN-Habitat has had an ongoing partnership with the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) since 1995, prior to the second United Nations Conference on Human Settlements, held in Istanbul in 1996 (Habitat II). A positive initiative of the collaboration is that FIG has established the position of Director, FIG/UN Liaison.

The President of the International Federation of Surveyors, CheeHai TEO, presented a paper on the Federation and spatially enabled societies.* The paper highlighted the work of the Federation by Surveyor 2.0 in addressing the global changes fuelled by the convergence of technologies, the web/online maps and the location revolution.
31 - وعرض رئيس الاتحاد الدولي للمسّاحين تشيهاي تيو، ورقة عن الاتحاد والمجتمعات المدعومة ببيانات مكانية*. وسلّطت الورقة الضوء على العمل الذي قام به الاتحاد من خلال برنامج " المسّاح 2.0 Surveyor 2.0 " والذي تناول في سياقه التغيرات التي طرأت على الصعيد العالمي نتيجة التلاحم بين التكنولوجيات والخرائط المتاحة على الإنترنت والتغيرات التي حدثت في مجال تحديد المواقع.

Cooperation continued with the International Cartographic Association (ICA) and the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) pursuant to the memorandums of understanding that the Office for Outer Space Affairs signed with those two organizations in 2004, which provide for cooperation based on a mutual interest in the fields of GNSS, disaster management and the management of natural resources.
