1. Requests the Open-ended Working Group to finalize the technical guidelines on the environmentally sound management of wastes resulting from surface treatment of metals and plastics (Y17) with a view to their interim adoption by the Open-ended Working Group at its fourth session;

4. The Open-ended Working Group may wish to adopt on an interim basis technical guidelines on the environmentally sound management of wastes resulting from surface treatment of metals and plastics (Y17) on the basis of the draft guidelines contained in document UNEP/CHW/OEWG/3/INF/8.

At the first session of the Open-ended Working Group, held from 28 April to 2 May 2003, Australia introduced a first draft of technical guidelines on the environmentally sound management of wastes resulting from surface treatment of metals and plastics (Y17), which it had prepared with the assistance of the Secretariat, and invited comments from the Working Group.

2 - قدمت استراليا ، في الدورة الأولى للفريق العامل مفتوح العضويـة، المعقودة في الفترة من 28 نيسان/أبريل إلى 2 أيار/مايو 2003، مشروعاً أول لمبادئ توجيهية تقنية بشأن الإدارة السليمة بيئياً للنفايات الناجمة عن المعالجة السطحية للمعادن واللدائن (Y17)، كانت استراليا قد أعدته بمساعدة الأمانة، ودعت الفريق العامل مفتوح العضوية لإبداء تعليقاته عليه.

Reference is made to decisions V/26 and VI/37 adopted by the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal at its fifth and sixth meetings, respectively, in relation to the preparation of technical guidelines on the environmentally sound management of wastes resulting from surface treatment of metals and plastics (Y17).
