26. For the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (21 March), the Department asked social media users to post questions addressed to the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.

The Department was heavily involved in planning and promoting the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, on 25 November 2011, focusing on promoting the role of youth as leaders in preventing and ending gender-based violence, and in activities around the " 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence " campaign.

In addition, the Office has continued to organize events to raise awareness in the fight against racial discrimination, including a high-level panel discussion for the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (21 March), and holding consultations with regional and United Nations agencies to enhance cooperation in the fight against racial discrimination.

An IPU conference in Geneva identified six priority actions for parliaments on this issue, and IPU followed up with a parliamentary campaign to end violence against women with a dedicated section on its website, as well as publications and campaign material to support parliaments in marking the tenth anniversary of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

29 - روّجت الإدارة لحملة الأمين العام المعنونة " متحدون من أجل إنهاء العنف ضد المرأة " ، بالتعاون مع أمانة الحملة ومع شركاء من منظومة الأمم المتحدة، وشاركت في التخطيط والترويج لليوم الدولي للقضاء على العنف ضد المرأة في 25 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر، الذي أعقبته حملة ستة عشر يوما من النشاط لمناهضة العنف الجنساني.

During the reporting period, the Department was involved in the planning and promotion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, under the theme " Leadership of corporate sector in empowering women and ending violence against women and girls " , and the activities around the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence.
