691. On 29 June, I transmitted to the General Assembly the second report of the Director of MINUGUA on human rights (A/49/929).

My delegation noted with interest the fifth report of the Director of the Mission, dated 19 July 1996 (A/50/1006), and its conclusions.

Calls upon the Government of Guatemala and the Unidad Revolucionaria Nacional Guatemalteca to take effective action to implement the recommendations contained in the third and fourth reports of the Director of the Mission and to comply fully with their commitments under the Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights and with human rights aspects of the Agreement on Identity and Rights of Indigenous Peoples;
٤ - تطلب إلى حكومة غواتيمالا والاتحاد الثوري الوطني الغواتيمالي اتخاذ إجراءات فعالة لتنفيذ التوصيات الواردة في التقريرين الثالث والرابع لمدير البعثة والامتثال التام لالتزاماتهما بموجب الاتفاق الشامل بشأن حقوق اﻹنسان وبالجوانب المتصلة بحقوق اﻹنسان من الاتفاق المتعلق بهوية وحقوق السكان اﻷصليين؛

The draft resolution we are submitting today for the consideration of the General Assembly takes note of the conclusions and recommendations contained in the third and fourth reports of the Director of the Mission regarding compliance by the Government of Guatemala and the URNG with the commitments made in the Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights and to the human rights aspects of the agreement on Identity and Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

I therefore stress the need for the parties to respond fully to the General Assembly's call in resolution 49/236 B for them to implement the recommendations contained in the first and second reports of the Director of MINUGUA.
