In this conviction, Ecuador took an active part in preparing the Treaty of Tlatelolco, which declared Latin America a nuclear-weapon-free zone.
وانطلاقاً من هذا الإيمان، شاركت إكوادور مشاركة نشطة في الإعداد لمعاهدة تلاتيلولكو التي أعلنت أمريكا اللاتينية منطقة خالية من الأسلحة النووية.

In return, they ought to be accorded legally binding assurances — such as those given under Protocol II of the Tlatelolco Treaty — to the effect that, pending the achievement of nuclear disarmament, their national security will not be endangered through the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons.
