60. In addition, the seventh regional consultation meeting of United Nations agencies and organizations working in Africa, held in November 2006 in Addis Ababa, reflected a renewed commitment by the United Nations system to provide focused and coordinated support to the African Union and NEPAD.

The Eighth Regional Consultative Meeting of United Nations agencies and organizations working in Africa in support of the AU and its NEPAD programme was held on 5 and 6 November 2007 to build on the achievements of the seventh RCM and to strengthen the partnership with the AU Commission and the NEPAD Secretariat.

76. Similarly, the Review Meeting on Measures to Enhance the Regional Coordination Mechanism of United Nations agencies and organizations working in Africa in support of the African Union and its NEPAD Programme, organized by ECA, was held at Addis Ababa, on 16 and 17 September 2008.

In this context, the Eleventh Session of the Regional Coordination Mechanism of United Nations agencies and organizations working in Africa (RCM-Africa) provided a platform to raise awareness and mobilize the necessary support to ensure Africa's effective preparation for the Rio+20 Conference.

In doing so, the evaluation examines, inter alia, the functioning, effectiveness and efficiency of the existing system-wide coordination mechanisms, in particular the Regional Coordination Mechanisms (RCM) of United Nations agencies and organizations working in Africa in support of the African Union (AU) and its NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa's Development) Programme, and issues pertaining to the Resident Coordinator system.
