The 60th Anniversary of Human Rights Day of 10 December 2007 was utilized by PIPE to begin the initiative.

One result was both increased understanding among civil society of the responsibilities of the State and business actors in the land and labour sectors, and greater interest and capacity in promoting responsible business practices, as evidenced by the choice by local civil society of business and human rights as the theme for 2012 Human Rights Day.
