Since 2005 the Working Group on Space Sciences in Africa, established as a result of discussions held under the Initiative, had gradually been replaced by a new mechanism, the African Leadership Conference on Space Science and Technology for Sustainable Development.

The Subcommittee also noted that the African Leadership Conference on Space Science and Technology for Sustainable Development would be held in Ghana in 2013 and that a working group had been established to formulate the African Space Policy and Strategy.

Recognizes, in that regard, the important role played by conferences and other mechanisms in strengthening regional and international cooperation among States, such as the African Leadership Conference on Space Science and Technology for Sustainable Development, the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum, the Space Conference of the Americas, a process that should not be interrupted, and the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization;

The Committee noted with appreciation that a number of national, regional and international efforts were being undertaken to build capacity in space law, including efforts by the African Leadership Conference on Space Science and Technology for Sustainable Development, the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization and the Space Conferences of the Americas.
204- ولاحظت اللجنة مع التقدير أن عددا من الجهود الوطنية والإقليمية والدولية تُبذل لبناء القدرات في مجال قانون الفضاء، بما في ذلك الجهود التي يبذلها مؤتمر القيادات الأفريقية بشأن علوم وتكنولوجيا الفضاء لأغراض التنمية المستدامة ومؤتمرات القارة الأمريكية المعنية بالفضاء ومنظمة التعاون الفضائي لآسيا والمحيط الهادئ.

The view was expressed that, in order to build capacity in space law, the Office for Outer Space Affairs should consider contributing to, and participating in, the African Leadership Conference on Space Science and Technology for Sustainable Development, including by establishing a practitioners' forum similar to that organized by ECSL.
138- وأُعرب عن رأي مؤدّاه أنه، بغية بناء القدرات في مجال قانون الفضاء، ينبغي أن ينظر مكتب شؤون الفضاء الخارجي في المساهمة والمشاركة في مؤتمر القيادات الأفريقية بشأن علوم وتكنولوجيا الفضاء من أجل التنمية المستدامة، بما في ذلك عن طريق إنشاء منتدى للممارسين المتخصّصين على غرار المنتدى الذي نظّمه المركز الأوروبي لقانون الفضاء.
