(b) The crucial role played by the African Union and its various mechanisms in helping to reach a peaceful settlement to the conflict in Darfur, and in this regard appreciates the leadership of President of Nigeria Mr. Olusegun Obasanjo in hosting and chairing the Abuja peace talks and expresses its confidence that the African Heads of State will continue their support for the peace process in Darfur;
(ب) الدور الحاسم الذي يقوم به الاتحاد الأفريقي ومختلف آلياته في المساعدة على التوصل إلى تسوية سلمية للنزاع في دارفور، وترحب في هذا الصدد بالدور الريادي الذي اضطلع به رئيس نيجيريا، السيد أوليسيغون أوباسانجو، في استضافة وترؤس محادثات أبوجا للسلام وتعرب عن يقينها أن رؤساء الدول الأفارقة سيواصلون دعمهم لعملية السلام في دارفور؛

(b) That the decision on the mandate and size of any future United Nations peacekeeping operation in Darfur is informed by the evolving situation on the ground; in this respect, a successful outcome of the Abuja peace talks and a significant improvement in the security and humanitarian situation on the ground will be key factors in any decision of the United Nations Security Council on the nature of the peacekeeping operation in Darfur;
(ب) اتخاذ القرار بشأن ولاية وحجم أي عملية حفظ سلام تابعة للأمم المتحدة في دارفور على أساس الحالة المتغيرة على الأرض؛ وفي هذا الصدد، يمثل تحقيق النجاح في محادثات أبوجا للسلام وحدوث تحسن كبير في الحالة الأمنية والإنسانية على الأرض عاملين رئيسيين في أي قرار يتخذه مجلس الأمن التابع للأمم المتحدة بشأن طبيعة عملية حفظ السلام في دارفور؛
