This work under the Subsidiary Body is closely linked to the ongoing discussions under the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries.

Background: At its sixteenth session, the COP adopted decision 1/CP.16, which addresses policy approaches and positive incentives on issues relating to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries; and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries in chapter III.C and in appendices I and II.

(d) Maintaining and enhancing information sharing in relation to REDD and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries through the REDD Web Platform;

At its 9th meeting, on 18 - 19 December, the COP, acting upon a recommendation by the SBSTA, adopted decision 4/CP.15 entitled " Methodological guidance for activities relating to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries " (FCCC/CP/2009/11/Add.1).
74- وبناء على توصية من الهيئة الفرعية للمشورة العلمية والتكنولوجية()، اعتمد مؤتمر الأطراف في جلسته التاسعة المعقودة في 18-19 كانون الأول/ديسمبر المقرر 4/م أ-15 المعنون " إرشادات منهجية من أجل الأنشطة المتصلة بخفض الانبعاثات الناتجة عن إزالة الغابات وتردي الغابات، ودور حفظ الغابات وإدارتها بصورة مستدامة وزيادة مخزونات الكربون في الغابات في البلدان النامية " (FCCC/CP/2009/11/Add.1).

The speaker said that there was a need to ensure that forests were at the centre of the green growth pathway and that REDD-plus (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries) and the green economy should be mutually reinforcing.
