The General Assembly, in its resolution 52/220 of 22 December 1997, had requested that a report on integration of United Nations information centres with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) be submitted to the Assembly at its fifty-third session.

60. As mandated by the General Assembly, and in line with the new reform measures, the Department is continuing the process of integrating United Nations information centres with the field offices of UNDP on a case-by-case basis, in consultation with host Governments, while ensuring that the functional autonomy of the centres is not adversely affected.
