19. The Workshop noted that the United Nations treaties and principles on outer space contained practical benefits that applied both to space-faring and non-space-faring nations.

The Workshop aimed to promote understanding, acceptance and implementation of the United Nations treaties and principles on outer space, promote exchange of information on domestic space laws and policies and consider opportunities for education and training in space law, with a view to promoting national expertise and capability in the field.

The Subcommittee noted with appreciation that the Workshop had promoted the understanding, acceptance and implementation of the United Nations treaties and principles on outer space, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean.
51- ولاحظت اللجنة الفرعية مع التقدير أن حلقة العمل تلك ساعدت على فهم وقبول وتنفيذ معاهدات الأمم المتحدة ومبادئها المتعلقة بالفضاء الخارجي، لا سيما في أمريكا اللاتينية والكاريبـي.

However, the view was reiterated that the United Nations treaties and principles on outer space were continuing to meet the need for a broad and flexible structure to accommodate rapidly changing technology and had together established a framework within which outer space activities had flourished.

7. The Workshop provided an overview of the United Nations treaties and principles on outer space, examined and compared various aspects of existing national space laws and considered opportunities for university-level studies in space law.
7- ووفرت حلقة العمل لمحة عامة عن معاهدات الأمم المتحدة ومبادئها المتعلقة بالفضاء الخارجي، ودرست مختلف جوانب قوانين الفضاء الوطنية الراهنة وقارنت بينها ونظرت في الفرص المتوافرة لتنظيم دراسات جامعية في مجال قانون الفضاء.

The Subcommittee welcomed with satisfaction the publication containing the text of the United Nations treaties and principles on outer space (ST/SPACE/11).
38- ورحبت اللجنة الفرعية، مع الارتياح، بالمنشور المحتوي على نص معاهدات الأمم المتحدة ومبادئها المتعلقة بالفضاء الخارجي (ST/SPACE/11).

Some delegations reported on activities related to the establishment and development of national space law, including the establishment of national registries of space objects, in order to effectively implement the provisions of the United Nations treaties and principles on outer space at the national level.
20- وقدمت بعض الوفود معلومات عن أنشطة تتصل بسن قوانين فضاء وطنية وتطويرها، بما في ذلك إنشاء سجلات وطنية للأجسام الفضائية، لتنفيذ أحكام معاهدات الأمم المتحدة ومبادئها المتعلقة بالفضاء الخارجي تنفيذا فعالا على الصعيد الوطني.

The view was expressed that the Committee should keep abreast of new initiatives relating to activities in outer space and react to them, when appropriate, especially to activities not in line with the United Nations treaties and principles on outer space or the Committee's goal of neutralizing threats posed to the sustainability of outer space activities.
53- وقيل إنَّ على اللجنة أن تجاري المبادرات الجديدة المتصلة بأنشطة الفضاء الخارجي وأن تتخذ موقفا منها، عند الاقتضاء، ولا سيما الأنشطة التي لا تتفق مع معاهدات الأمم المتحدة ومبادئها المتعلقة بالفضاء الخارجي ولا مع هدف اللجنة الرامي إلى إزالة المخاطر التي تهدد استدامة أنشطة الفضاء الخارجي.

The training provided to policy makers and programme managers of governmental agencies, national legislative bodies and licensing authorities in both spacefaring and non-spacefaring States enhanced their understanding of the importance of the United Nations treaties and principles on outer space and strengthened their capacity to apply those international legal instruments to national space activities.

The Subcommittee noted with appreciation that the United Nations/Nigeria Workshop on Space Law had provided an overview of the United Nations treaties and principles on outer space, had addressed the development of national space laws and policies and had considered ways and means of enhancing the availability and development of university-level studies and programmes in space law, particularly in the African region.
73- ولاحظت اللجنة الفرعية مع التقدير أنّ حلقة العمل المشتركة بين الأمم المتحدة ونيجيريا بشأن قانون الفضاء قدمت لمحة عامة عن معاهدات الأمم المتحدة ومبادئها المتعلقة بالفضاء الخارجي، وتناولت قضية وضع قوانين وسياسات وطنية في مجال الفضاء، ونظرت في السبل والوسائل التي تعزّز توافر وتطوير الدراسات والبرامج الجامعية في مجال قانون الفضاء، وخصوصا في منطقة أفريقيا.
