إن التحفظ المتعلق بأي تفسير لأحكام الاتفاقية يتنافى مع أحكام الشريعة الإسلامية لا يحدد بوضوح أحكام الاتفاقية التي ينطبق عليه ومدى الاستثناء منها، مما يثير الشكوك حول التزام المملكة العربية السعودية بالاتفاقية.

The State withdrew its general reservation to the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography and part of its general reservation to the Convention on the Rights of the Child concerning any provisions that conflict with the sharia as applied to articles 2 and 14 of the Convention.
