45. In line with its resolutions 1261 (1999) and 1265 (1999), the Security Council included the protection of children in the mandates of the peacekeeping operations for Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo), two conflict areas where children are suffering on a massive scale as a result of war.
