14. The President commended the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for drawing the attention of the international community to protracted or often forgotten refugee situations and to the need for burden sharing to achieve durable solutions.

Mr. Bonser (Canada) said that his delegation supported the decision to enlarge the membership of the Executive Committee of the Programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to include Afghanistan, Czech Republic, Latvia, Peru, Senegal and Slovakia, but was firmly opposed to the inclusion of Belarus.
