Jordan therefore completely supports the draft resolution that has been distributed on the development of the working methods of the Security Council. We have contributed to it, and, together with Switzerland, Costa Rica, Liechtenstein and Singapore, we were among the original sponsors.

1. Mr. Schori (Sweden), introducing draft decision A/C.6/57/L.23 on behalf of the original sponsors and Guatemala, Liechtenstein and Mauritius, said that the issue had been on the agenda of the General Assembly since 2000, and the sponsors hoped that the Committee would now be able to conclude its consideration of the matter.

1. Ms. Khalil (Egypt), introducing the draft resolution on behalf of the original sponsors and China, Djibouti and Mauritania, said the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories continued to deteriorate at an alarming rate.

5. Mr. Dapkiunas (Belarus), introducing the draft resolution on behalf of the original sponsors and Ecuador, said that millions of trafficked human beings, mainly women and children, were denied their basic human rights on a daily basis.

8. Ms. Feller (Mexico), introducing the draft resolution on behalf of the original sponsors, as well as Ghana, Morocco and Nigeria, said that drug trafficking and drug consumption continued to have a devastating effect on development and stability.

99. Mr. Nikiforov (Russian Federation), introducing the draft resolution on behalf of the original sponsors and Kazakhstan and Ukraine, said that hostage-taking remained an urgent problem which his Government had experienced first hand.

13. Ms. Morgan (Mexico), introducing draft resolution A/C.2/68/L.13 on behalf of the original sponsors and also Cuba, China and Ukraine, said that the initiative had come from the scientific community.

Ms. Muuondjo (Namibia), introducing the draft resolution on behalf of the original sponsors as well as Cape Verde, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Panama, Paraguay and Peru, said that the issue of fistula had been included in the draft resolution, as it affected the mortality and morbidity of young women, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, where health care was rudimentary.

24. Mr. Gómez Robledo (Mexico), introducing the draft resolution on behalf of the original sponsors and also Canada, Costa Rica, Croatia, Ecuador, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta and Poland, said that terrorism was a serious problem for the territorial integrity and security of States.

3. Mr. Lukyantsev (Russian Federation), introducing draft resolution A/C.3/60/L.60 on behalf of the original sponsors as well as Tajikistan, said that his delegation noted with concern the rise of various extremist groups, including neo-Nazis and skinheads.

Mr. Normandin (Canada), introducing draft resolution A/C.3/62/L.43 on behalf of the original sponsors and Fiji and Iceland, said that there has been a continued deterioration in the protection of the human rights of the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran in accordance with that country's international obligations.

Mr. Chávez (Peru), introducing the draft resolution on behalf of the original sponsors and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cameroon, Costa Rica, Cyprus, the Dominican Republic, Finland, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland, said that the Declaration annexed to the draft resolution sought to establish a new relationship between States and indigenous peoples.

Mr. Normandin (Canada), introducing the draft resolution on behalf of the original sponsors and Micronesia (Federated States of), Moldova (Republic of), New Zealand, Palau and The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, said that the human-rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran had continued to deteriorate since 2005.
