The main activities of the biennium 2008 - 2009 include the sessions of the COP and its subsidiary bodies; support for the preparation of reports on the implementation of the Convention in regions other than Africa and other arrangements for the next review meeting; and strengthening the scientific, thematic and synergistic aspects in the UNCCD implementation process.

As perIn accordance with decision 1/COP.5, the affected country Parties from regions other than Africa are requested to provide information on the activities carried out in the implementation of the Convention for the fifth session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC. 5) and and the eighth session of the COP (COP 8).
24- بموجب مقرر مؤتمر الأطراف 1/م أ-5، ينبغي للبلدان الأطراف المتأثرة في مناطق غير أفريقيا أن توافي الدورة الخامسة للجنة استعراض تنفيذ الاتفاقية، والدورة الثامنة لمؤتمر الأطراف بمعلومات عن الأنشطة التي أُنجزت لتنفيذ الاتفاقية.

5. The Committee further reviewed information provided by relevant organs, funds and programmes of the United Nations system, as well as by other intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, in respect of their activities in support of the implementation of the Convention in affected country parties of regions other than Africa.

Recognizing that the outcome of the review of the implementation of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in regions other than Africa during the fifth session of the CRIC often confirms the trends and findings identified through the review of implementation in Africa which was completed during the third session of the CRIC,

INTRODUCTION 1. Decision 9/COP.7, on the programme of work of the fifth session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC), decided that the CRIC would review reports on implementation of affected country Parties of regions other than Africa, including on the participatory process, and on experience gained and results achieved in the preparation and implementation of action programmes.
