ثم أشار إلى الأقاليم الجزرية الصغيرة في منطقة البحر الكاريبي ومنطقة المحيط الهادئ التي تتعرض بشكل خاص للتهديدات الناجمة عن التغيير المناخي والكوارث الطبيعية ورأى ضرورة دعمها بتدابير تستهدف تحقيق نمو اقتصادي متوازن فيها توطئة لحصولها على حق تقرير المصير.

18 - وطالب بمواصلة اتخاذ تدابير لتعزيز النمو الاقتصادي المستدام والمتوازن في الأقاليم الجزرية الصغيرة في منطقة البحر الكاريبي ومنطقة المحيط الهادئ ويمكّنها من ممارسة حقها في تقرير المصير.

8. The International Labour Organization (ILO), as the executing agency, has been carrying out technical cooperation projects and other activities in some of the Non-Self-Governing Territories in the Caribbean and the Pacific.

Previously, meetings had taken place alternately in the Caribbean and Pacific regions, where the majority of the remaining Non-Self-Governing Territories were located. Therefore, after consulting with the countries of the region, Papua New Guinea had offered, as it had done in 1993, to host the seminar in 1996.
وبما أن هذه الاجتماعات ستعقد بالتناوب في منطقة البحر الكاريبي ومنطقة المحيط الهادئ حيث تقع أغلبية آخر اﻷقاليم غير المتمتعة بالحكم الذاتي، فإن بابوا غينيا الجديدة عرضت، على غرار ما فعلته في ١٩٩٣، استضافة الحلقة الدراسية لهذه السنة، بعد أن استشارت بلدان المنطقة.

The Chairman of the Special Committee on the Situation with regard to the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples is well placed to establish such linkages, since the Non-Self-Governing Territories are primarily located in the Caribbean and Pacific regions.
إن رئيس اللجنة الخاصة المعنية بحالة تنفيذ اعلان منح الاستقلال للبلدان والشعوب المستعمرة هو في وضع يمكنه من اقامة هذه الروابط، اذ أن اﻷقاليم غير المتمتعة بالحكم الذاتي تقع أساسا في منطقة البحر الكاريبي ومنطقة المحيط الهادئ.

I have been advised that this is the latest in a series of such annual sessions which alternate between the Caribbean and Pacific regions to provide States Members of the United Nations with a first-hand account of conditions in the Territories, and to hear from the people of the Territories themselves of their successes, as well as their difficulties, in proceeding along the path towards full self-government and dignity.
وقد أُبلغت بأن هذه الدورة هي اﻷخيرة في هذه السلسلة من الدورات السنوية التي تُعقد بالتناوب بين منطقة البحر الكاريبي ومنطقة المحيط الهادئ لتقديم وصف مباشر لﻷوضاع في اﻷقاليم إلى الدول اﻷعضاء في اﻷمم المتحدة، وللاستماع إلى شعوب هذه اﻷقاليم نصف نجاحاتها والصعوبات التي تواجهها في السير قدما على طريق تحقيق الحكم الذاتي الكامل والكرامة.
