On a point of order, some Committee members expressed surprise at the motion to discontinue the review of Freedom House.

Some delegations were of the opinion that the case of Freedom House necessitated that certain contradictory responses be clarified.

Freedom House sent delegations to attend several regular and universal periodic review sessions of the Human Rights Council in Geneva during the reporting period:

83. At the second part of its 2000 session, the Committee had had before it a special report and a response from Freedom House explaining the incident.
83 - وكان معروضا على اللجنة، في الجزء الثاني من دورتها لعام 2000، تقرير خاص ورد من منظمة دار الحرية يشرح الحادثة.

" Freedom House has not only ignored this commitment, but has acted with total disregard for the established norms.
" إن منظمة دار الحرية لم تتجاهل هذا الالتزام فحسب، بل عملت أيضا دون أي اكتراث بجميع الأحكام المحددة.

By so doing, Freedom House, in spite of its consultative status with the Council, had violated United Nations rules as well as the spirit of United Nations resolutions.
وقال إنه حينما تفعل منظمة دار الحرية ذلك، فإنها تنتهك قواعد الأمم المتحدة، فضلا عن انتهاكها لروح قرارات الأمم المتحدة، برغم تمتعها بالمركز الاستشاري لدى المجلس.

86. The representative of the United States stressed that the activities of Freedom House were fully consistent with the spirit and the work of the United Nations.
86 - وأكد ممثل الولايات المتحدة أن أنشطة منظمة دار الحرية تتفق تماما مع روح عمل الأمم المتحدة.

He reiterated the fact that Freedom House was totally independent of United States Government direction and also stated that he was satisfied with the special report of Freedom House.
وأعاد تأكيد أن منظمة دار الحرية مستقلة تماما عن أي توجيه من قبل حكومة الولايات المتحدة، وأعرب أيضا عن رضاه عن التقرير الخاص للمنظمة.

85. At its resumed 2000 session, the Committee had had before it a special report and a response from Freedom House explaining the incident.

" وبعد أن حلل وفدي التقرير الخاص المقدم من منظمة دار الحرية علينا أن نقول بدون أدنى تحفظ إننا غير راضين عما جاء فيه.

Also, in its answers to the Committee's questions, the organization insists that it is Freedom House, and only Freedom House, that decides in which countries to implement its programmes and the goals of those programmes, including the Cuban programme.
كما أكدت المنظمة بشدة في ردودها على أسئلة اللجنة أن منظمة دار الحرية هي الجهة الوحيدة التي تحدد البلدان التي سيضطلع فيها ببرامجها وأهداف هذه البرامج، بما في ذلك برنامج كوبا.

Then, the two men were accredited immediately by Freedom House. Subsequently, using various ploys, Freedom House managed to persuade another non-governmental organization, Interfaith International, to accredit them.

100. The representative of Sudan noted that in its statement at the Committee's resumed 2001 session, Freedom House had referred to visiting the Sudan in connection with producing a report on that country.
100 - وأفاد ممثل السودان بأن منظمة دار الحرية أشارت في البيان الذي قدمته خلال دورة اللجنة المستأنفة لعام 2001 إلى قيامها بزيارة للسودان من أجل إصدار تقرير عن هذا البلد.

Freedom House, for its part, is an organization on which there is no international consensus and whose activities and credibility have been strongly questioned by a number of United Nations Member States.
