Notwithstanding the closure of the Peshkapor border crossing in the Kurdistan Region on 19 May, through which more than 95 per cent of Syrian refugees had entered Iraq, the number of refugees entering the Kurdistan Region has averaged between 500 and 700 per day, leading to congestion and overcrowding in the Domiz camp, which is now home to some 40,000 refugees -- yet with an original capacity of 15,000.
