The purpose of this Protocol is to promote, facilitate and strengthen cooperation among States Parties in order to prevent, combat and eradicate the illicit manufacturing of and trafficking in firearms, their parts and components and ammunition.

The objective of this Protocol is to establish an international preventive visiting mechanism to examine the treatment of persons deprived of their liberty, with a view to recommending means for strengthening, if necessary, the protection of such persons from torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

1. The objective of this Protocol is to achieve an environmentally sound response to climate change through effective implementation of the Convention, with a view to achieving its ultimate objective as provided in its Article 2, by:

However, since the primary purpose of this Protocol is to prevent recruitment into the armed forces themselves and involvement in hostilities of those below the age of 18 years, we would be willing to see a tightly drafted exception for military schools and academies in the interest of accommodating States who would not otherwise be able or willing to become parties to the protocol.
ولكن لمﱠا كان الغرض اﻷولي من هذا البروتوكول هو منع التجنيد في القوات المسلحة نفسها واشتراك اﻷشخاص دون سن ٨١ عاما في اﻷعمال الحربية، فإننا بودنا لو أُدرج استثناء مصاغ بإحكام بالنسبة للمدارس واﻷكاديميات العسكرية من أجل مواءمة الدول التي لولا ذلك يكون بإمكانها أو بارادتها أن تصبح أطرافاً في البروتوكول.

واقترح وفد اﻷرجنتين دمج الفقرتين اﻷوليين على النحو التالي: " الغرض من هذا البروتوكول هو منع وقمع ومعاقبة الاتجار الدولي باﻷشخاص، ولاسيما النساء واﻷطفال، وتعزيز وتيسير التعاون بين الدول اﻷطراف على تحقيق هذه اﻷهداف. "

According to article 2 of the Protocol, the purpose of the Protocol is to prevent and combat trafficking in persons especially woman and children, protect and assist the victims of such trafficking and to promote international cooperation among States parties in order to meet those objectives.
