1. The Oslo Group on Energy Statistics was established by the Statistical Commission in 2005 on the basis of the issues discussed in the report of the programme reviewer (Statistics Norway) on energy statistics.

(c) The Commission on Sustainable Development, at its eighth session, noted with interest the critical issues in energy for sustainable development discussed in the report of the Committee and urged countries to contribute to the preparatory process for the ninth session of the Commission.

The Group was established in 2006 on the basis of the issues discussed in the report of the programme reviewer (Statistics Norway) on energy statistics (E/CN.3/2005/3), prepared for the thirty-sixth session of the Statistical Commission, held from 1 to 4 March 2005, and the recommendations of the ad hoc expert group on energy statistics, convened in New York from 23 to 25 May 2005 (see E/CN.3/2005/10).

The Advisory Committee also notes that of the 26 missions discussed in the report of the Secretary-General, 6 missions have open-ended mandates, 10 missions have mandates of various dates, ranging from January to October 2008, 1 mission is under consideration by the General Assembly and 9 missions have mandates expiring in December 2007.

The Advisory Committee believes that each of the three main ICSC harmonization proposals discussed in the report of the Secretary-General (A/65/305/Add.1) has merit and responds to concerns previously expressed by the Committee (see, for example, A/61/537, A/62/7/Add.14, A/63/526 and Corr.1 and A/64/518).
