Mr. Landveld (Suriname), speaking on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), said that agricultural productivity and rural development were vital for poverty reduction and sustainable development.

Mr. Goddard (Barbados), speaking on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), said the increasing frequency and intensity of such extreme weather events in the region was alarming and placed the link between such phenomena and climate change beyond dispute.

10. Mr. Hunte (Antigua and Barbuda), speaking on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), expressed appreciation for the steps taken by the Chair in respect of the order of speakers.

27. Ms. Young (Belize), speaking on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), noted that once again an observer delegation had spoken before a State speaking on behalf of a group.
27 - السيدة ينغ (بليز): تكلمت نيابة عن الجماعة الكاريبية فقالت إنه قد حدث مرة أخرى أن تكلم وفد مراقب قبل دولة تتكلم نيابة عن مجموعة.

My delegation could not agree more with what was said by the representative of Barbados on behalf of the Caribbean Community yesterday, namely, that special provision should be made for the SIDS in the nonpermanent category of Council seats (see A/66/PV.51).

Mr. Stanislaus (Grenada), speaking on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), said that CARICOM associated itself with the statement made on behalf of the Group of 77 and China to the effect that all necessary resources must be provided to carry out the medium-term plan for the period 1998-2001, which was the main strategic document for programme planning and implementation.
