In its resolution 54/55 A of 1 December 1999, the General Assembly, recalling the decision of the fourth meeting of the Standing Advisory Committee, requested the Secretary-General and the High Commissioner to lend their support to the establishment of the subregional centre. It was decided to appropriate US$ 1 million for the biennium 2000-2001 for the creation and functioning of such a centre.
