85. The eighth meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Intersessional Working Group on Article 8 (j) and related provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity was held from 7 to 11 October 2013.

Taking note of the decision adopted by the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity at its twelfth meeting entitled " Article 8(j) and related provisions, terminology `indigenous peoples and local communities' " ,
وإذ تحيط علما بالمقرر المعنون " المادة 8 (ي) والأحكام المتصلة بها: مصطلح ' الشعوب الأصلية والمجتمعات المحلية` " الذي اعتمده مؤتمر الأطراف في اتفاقية التنوع البيولوجي إبان اجتماعه الثاني عشر()،

Regarding article 8 (j) of the Convention and related provisions, the Conference of the Parties requested the secretariat to continue its work on sui generis systems by collating and analysing information, including evidence about the effectiveness of sui generis measures that have been taken at the local, subnational, national or regional levels.

8. On protection of children from all forms of violence, abuse and neglect (a clear commitment under article 19 and related provisions of the Convention), the Committee feels that the general reference to this objective in paragraph 36 (a) is not appropriately reflected in the more specific " strategies and actions " described in paragraph 37.

14. The Conference of the Parties demonstrated its continued strong commitment to the implementation of article 8 (j) and related provisions of the Convention on the traditional knowledge, innovations and practices of indigenous and local communities (decision VI/10).

The Conference of the Parties established the ad hoc open-ended intersessional Working Group on Article 8 (j) and related provisions to address them and to develop an ambitious programme of work, which was adopted by the Conference of the Parties in 2000 and provides the basis for action on traditional knowledge within the framework of the Convention.

4. CDI participated in the Fifth Meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Intersessional Working Group on article 8 (j) and related provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity (Montreal, Canada, 15-19 October 2007) with a view to following up that theme.

By the end of 2006, incorporate into domestic law the offences and related provisions established by the universal instruments against terrorism and the United Nations Convention against Transnational Crime and its three protocols, on the basis of the legislative reform proposal drawn up at the present workshop and contained in annex I;

(o) Recommended that indigenous organizations use the documents from the expert group meeting and other relevant meetings to produce concise briefing notes on various elements of the proposed international regime on access and benefit-sharing to inform all participants of the meetings of the open-ended Working Groups on Access and Benefit-sharing and Article 8 (j) and related provisions.

The Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity has established the Ad Hoc Open-ended Inter-sessional Working Group on Article 8 (j) and related provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity, which held its first meeting in March 2000 and whose programme of work for the implementation of article 8 (j) was approved by the Conference of the Parties in Nairobi in May 2000.
