The high-level segment of the Forum's ninth session is the first high-level meeting of the Forum since the adoption of the forest instrument and the global objectives on forests.

While the forest instrument and the global objectives on forests are sometimes referred to separately in Forum resolutions, they are inextricably linked in practice and share the aspiration to enhance sustainable forest management and the contribution of forests to the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals.
