6. The Mechanism for Promoting the Implementation and Compliance of the Basel Convention was established by decision VI/12, adopted by the Conference of the Parties at its sixth meeting in 2002.

(e) The Convention has entered into a new phase of operation based upon implementation of the Strategic Plan and Compliance with the Basel Convention.

The discussion would be in four parts: issues for decision by the parties to the Basel Convention regarding the Committee Administering the Mechanism for Promoting Implementation and Compliance with the Basel Convention (Implementation and Compliance Committee); lessons learned from the experience of the Implementation and Compliance Committee; compliance under the Rotterdam Convention; and compliance under the Stockholm Convention.
