Delegations welcomed the emphasis on the human rights-based approach and the inclusion of lessons learned and future directions under each focus area.

A strategy was crafted in 1995 and described in the report to the UNFPA Executive Board on programme priorities and future directions of UNFPA (DP/1995/25).
