In parts of West Africa, the gravity of the situation necessitated the adoption of a Political Declaration on the Prevention of Drug Abuse, Illicit Drug Trafficking and organized crime in West Africa by the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States.

The Political Declaration and Regional Action Plan that resulted from the conference and that were subsequently endorsed by the Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS in Abuja on 19 December 2008 established the basis for a strong political commitment and a detailed cooperation framework to combat drug trafficking and organized crime in West Africa.
وقد أرسى الإعلان السياسي وخطة العمل الإقليمية الصادران عن المؤتمر، واللذان أقرهما فيما بعد رؤساء دول وحكومات الجماعة الاقتصادية لدول غرب أفريقيا في أبوجا في 19 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2008، أساساً لالتزام سياسي متين وإطارا مفصلا للتعاون من أجل مكافحة الاتجار بالمخدرات والجريمة المنظمة في غرب أفريقيا.

31. The Political Declaration and Regional Action Plan adopted by the ministerial conference and subsequently endorsed at the ECOWAS summit held in Abuja on 19 December, have established the basis for a strong political commitment and a detailed cooperation framework to combat drug trafficking and organized crime in West Africa.

Within the framework of the Economic Community of West African States Political Declaration on the Prevention of Drug Abuse, Illicit Drug Trafficking and organized crime in West Africa, UNODC provided support through its regional programme for West Africa (2010-2014) and the West Africa Coast Initiative, aiming, inter alia, to strengthen criminal justice in post-conflict countries (Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Côte d'Ivoire).
53- وفي إطار الإعلان السياسي بشأن الوقاية من إدمان المخدرات والاتّجار غير المشروع بالمخدرات والجريمة المنظمة في غرب أفريقيا الصادر عن الجماعة الاقتصادية لدول غرب أفريقيا، قدم مكتب المخدرات والجريمة الدعم بواسطة البرنامج الإقليمي لغرب أفريقيا (2010-2014) ومبادرة ساحل غرب أفريقيا، مستهدفاً أمورا منها تدعيم العدالة الجنائية في البلدان الخارجة من النزاعات (سيراليون وغينيا-بيساو وكوت ديفوار وليبريا).

The ECOWAS Commission has also taken the necessary steps to implement the ECOWAS Political Declaration on the Prevention of Drug Abuse, Illicit Drug Trafficking and organized crime in West Africa and the Regional Action Plan to Address the Growing Problem of Illicit Drug Trafficking, Organized Crime and Drug Abuse in West Africa (2008-2011), starting with the strengthening of its existing structure for combating illicit drugs and crime.
51- واتخذت مفوضية الإيكواس أيضاً ما يلزم من خطوات لتنفيذ إعلان الإيكواس السياسي بشأن منع تعاطي المخدرات والاتجار غير المشروع بالمخدرات والجريمة المنظمة في غرب أفريقيا وخطة عملها الإقليمية للتصدي لتفاقم مشكلة الاتجار غير المشروع بالمخدرات والجريمة المنظمة وتعاطي المخدرات في غرب أفريقيا (2008-2011)، فابتدأت بتقوية الهيكل الحالي لمكافحة المخدرات غير المشروعة والجريمة.

F. Regional programme for West Africa In December 2008, West African Heads of State and Government endorsed the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Regional Action Plan to Address the Growing Problem of Illicit Drug Trafficking, Organized Crime and Drug Abuse in West Africa for the period 2008-2011 and the Political Declaration on the Prevention of Drug Abuse, Illicit Drug Trafficking and organized crime in West Africa.
66- في كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2008 أقر رؤساء دول وحكومات غرب أفريقيا خطة العمل الإقليمية للجماعة الاقتصادية لدول غرب أفريقيا (إيكواس) لمعالجة مشكلة تنامي الاتجار غير المشروع بالمخدرات والجريمة المنظمة وتعاطي المخدرات في غرب أفريقيا للفترة 2008-2011 والإعلان السياسي بشأن منع تعاطي المخدرات والاتجار غير المشروع بالمخدرات والجريمة المنظمة في غرب أفريقيا.
