For countries in Africa, Asia and Oceania, the Secretariat is examining options for collaboration with the Economic Commission for Africa, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia.

14. The representative of Paraguay and the representatives of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the Economic Commission for Africa made statements as hosts of the regional preparatory meetings.

Currently, such strategies are available and being implemented in the Economic Commission for Europe, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean regions.

17. Welcomes the fact that, despite various constraints, steps have been taken to increase the utilization of conference centres at the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the Economic Commission for Africa, and notes the plans for the future in this regard;

20. Requests the Secretary-General to continue to explore all possible options to further increase the utilization of the conference centres at the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the Economic Commission for Africa and to report thereon to the General Assembly at its fifty-sixth session, through the Committee on Conferences;

At its 7th meeting, on 25 March, the Commission heard a keynote address by Riad Tabbarah, Director, Centre for Development Studies and Projects, Beirut, which was followed by a discussion in which the delegations of the Syrian Arab Republic, Mexico, Lebanon and Kenya and the representatives of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the Economic Commission for Europe took part.

The Committee was informed, upon enquiry, that during 2009 and 2010, a total of 14 appeals or disciplinary matters arose from the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia combined.
