23. UNEP informed the Board that most inactive projects were from the Environment Fund because during the initial years, that had been the main source of funding, and it was only later that the trust fund and counterpart contribution mechanism of funding had grown in significance.
23 - وأبلغ برنامج الأمم المتحدة للبيئة المجلس بأن معظم المشاريع الخاملة من مشاريع صندوق البيئة، لأن الصندوق كان خلال السنوات الأولى المصدر الرئيسي للتمويل، ولم يحدث أن زادت أهمية آلية التمويل باستخدام الصناديق الاستئمانية والمساهمات المناظرة إلا مؤخرا.

Expressing its appreciation to those Governments that have increased their contributions to the Environment Fund, trust funds and counterpart contributions since 1998,

Subsequently, in its decision SS.V/1, the Council called on the Executive Director to ensure that trust fund and counterpart contributions other than contributions to conventions and the contributions from the GEF were clearly and directly related to the core programme areas identified in the Nairobi Declaration on the Role and Mandate of the United Nations Environment Programme and to seek further funding from those and other sources.

44. Activities related to return, recovery and reintegration take place at the community level in close coordination with United Nations agencies and NGOs, and are fully funded from voluntary contributions and counterpart contribution by the Sudanese Government of National Unity.
