In addition, the Centre serviced the Advisory Committee of the United Nations Educational and Training Programme for Southern Africa, the Commission against Apartheid in Sports, the Committee of Trustees of the United Nations Trust Fund for South Africa and the Intergovernmental Group to Monitor the Supply and Shipping of Oil and Petroleum Products to South Africa.

In paragraph 2 the General Assembly would further decide that all provisions adopted by the General Assembly related to the imposition of an embargo on the supply of petroleum and Petroleum Products to South Africa, and on investment in the petroleum industry there, should cease to have effect as of the date on which the Transitional Executive Council becomes operational.

In view of that information, and with respect to paragraph 2 of the General Assembly resolution, which I have just read out, I am pleased to inform the Assembly that the embargo related to the supply of petroleum and Petroleum Products to South Africa and investment in the petroleum industry there is now lifted.

In accordance with that same decision - resolution 48/1 - and as a result of the Transitional Executive Council's assuming its functions, the embargo on the supply of oil and Petroleum Products to South Africa was also lifted a few days ago.

I have received letters dated 7 December 1993 from the Chairmen of the Special Committee against Apartheid and the Intergovernmental Group to Monitor the Supply and Shipping of Oil and Petroleum Products to South Africa informing me that the Transitional Executive Council in South Africa is now operational.
ولقد تلقيت رسالتين مؤرختين في ٧ كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ١٩٩٣ من رئيس اللجنة الخاصة لمناهضة الفصل العنصري والفريق الحكومي الدولي لرصد توريد ونقل النفط والمنتجات النفطية إلى جنوب افريقيا ﻹبلاغي بــأن المجلس التنفيــذي الانتقالي في جنوب افريقيا يمارس عمله اﻵن.

12. Under the provisions of paragraph 3 (b) above, the mandate of the Intergovernmental Group to Monitor the Supply and Shipping of Oil and Petroleum Products to South Africa will be terminated as of the date of adoption of draft resolution A/48/L.31/Rev.1.
