The Regional Centre has formulated an important weapons destruction project that seeks to support Member States in implementing the 1997 Inter-American Convention Against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives and Other Related Materials and the United Nations Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects.

I have asked for the floor today to provide information on the results of the regional seminar on the implementation of the OSCE Small Arms Document and the United Nations Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects, held in Bucharest from 24 to 26 February 2003, organized by the Government of Romania and co-sponsored by the Governments of Canada and Italy.
