To achieve this goal, we need to remind ourselves of, and reaffirm, the fundamental bargain underlying the NPT, making this bargain the cornerstone of nuclear arms control and disarmament: the interdependent and mutually reinforcing relationship between the three pillars of the NPT, i.e. the obligations for non-proliferation and for nuclear disarmament, as well as the right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
