The role of the Commission, as defined in Accra Accord paragraph 201, is to conduct policy dialogue on one or two selected issues, consider reports of expert meetings, manage and recommend for approval the work programme of expert meetings within its purview, and promote and strengthen synergies among the three pillars.

(f) To preserve and maintain local and indigenous traditional knowledge and community practices of environmental management, which are valuable examples of culture as a vehicle for sustainable development, and to foster synergies between modern science and technology and local and indigenous knowledge, practices and innovation;

Paragraph 201 of the Accra Accord stipulates that the role of commissions is to, inter alia, promote and strengthen synergies among the three pillars of UNCTAD - namely consensus-building, research and analysis, and technical cooperation.

Develop and strengthen means to enhance cooperation at the regional level to implement the Convention and to effectively use and share resources, technology and expertise, engage the cooperation of regional organizations, and promote synergies between different regions.
وضع وتعزيز التعاون على المستوى الإقليمي، من أجل تنفيذ الاتفاقية واستخدام وتقاسم الموارد والتكنولوجيا والخبرات الفنية بصورة فعالة، وحفز تعاون المنظمات الإقليمية، وتعزيز التآزر بين المناطق المختلفة.

55. The Commission may wish to propose elements of a broad agenda aimed at exploring and promoting synergies between trade liberalization, environmental protection and other elements of sustainable development, in accordance with the objectives set out in the Marrakesh Agreement Establishing WTO, the Rio Declaration and Agenda 21.
