559. In light of article 29 and the Committee's general comment No. 1 on the aims of education, the Committee recommends that States parties include human rights education in pre and primary school programmes.

In the light of article 23 of the Convention and of its general comment No. 9 (2006) on the rights of children with disabilities, the Committee urges the State party to:

Understanding and knowledge of human rights must, of course, be promoted among children themselves, through the school curriculum and in other ways (see also paragraph 69 below and the Committee's general comment No. 1 (2001) on the aims of education).
