وإذ يشير إلى قرار الجمعية العامة ٢٩٩٧ )د - ٢٧( المؤرخ ١٥ كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ١٩٧٢ الذي قررت فيه أن يشجع مجلس اﻹدارة التعاون الدولي وأن يقدم توجيهات في مجال السياسات العامة لتوجيه وتنسيق البرامج البيئية داخل منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة،

The present progress report may assist the Council in performing its mandate of providing general policy guidance for the direction and coordination of environmental programmes within the United Nations system, as set out in General Assembly resolution 2997 (XXVII) of 15 December 1972.
4 - ربما يساعد التقرير المرحلي الحالي المجلسَ في أداء مهام ولايته المتمثلة في تقديم توجيه للسياسة العامة لإدارة وتنسيق البرامج البيئية في منظومة الأمم المتحدة، كما هي مبينة في قرار الجمعية العامة 2997 (الدورة السابعة والعشرين) المتخذ في كانون الأول/ديسمبر 1972.

(c) Providing broad policy advice and guidance for the direction and coordination of environmental programmes within the United Nations system by working through the Environment Management Group, the United Nations Development Group and other coordination mechanisms;

The latter mandated the Governing Council " to promote international cooperation in the field of the environment and to recommend, as appropriate, policies to this end, and to provide general policy guidance for the direction and coordination of environmental programmes within the United Nations system " .
وكلَّفت الجمعية مجلس الإدارة هذا " بأن يشجع التعاون الدولي في ميدان البيئة، وأن يوصي، حسب المقتضى، بالسياسات التي تُتبع تحقيقاً لهذه الغاية، وأن يقدم التوجيهات العامة التي تُتبع في إدارة وتنسيق البرامج البيئية ضمن مجموعة مؤسسات الأمم المتحدة " .

The recommendation is entirely consistent with resolution 2997 (XXVII) of 15 December 1972, by which the General Assembly established UNEP and provided for the UNEP Governing Council to, among others, " provide general policy guidance for the direction and coordination of environmental programmes within the United Nations system " .
