One delegation expressed satisfaction at the increased cooperation between the Department of Public Information and the University for Peace in Costa Rica and expressed the hope that the University could also function as a United Nations information centre.

وقد أيدت اكوادور، بوصفها من مقدمي مشروع القرار، الطلب من اﻷمين العام للنظر في وضع اتفاق للتعاون بين اﻷمم المتحدة وجامعة السلم بغية توطيد دمج الجامعة في منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة.

In its operative part, the draft resolution takes note with appreciation of the Secretary-General’s report, contained in document A/54/312, on measures to strengthen cooperation between the United Nations and the University for Peace.

We are meeting today in accordance with resolution 50/41 of 8 December 1995, in which the General Assembly decided to include in the agenda of the fifty-second session the item entitled “University for Peace” to consider ways of strengthening cooperation between the United Nations and the University for Peace.

1. In its resolution 55/136 B of 8 December 2000, the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to report on cooperation between the Department of Public Information of the Secretariat and the University for Peace in Costa Rica as a focal point for promoting United Nations activities and disseminating United Nations information materials.
1 - طلبت الجمعية العامة، في قرارها 55/136 باء المؤرخ 8 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2000، إلى الأمين العام أن يقدم تقريرا عن التعاون بين إدارة شؤون الإعلام بالأمانة العامة وجامعة السلم في كوستاريكا بوصفها مركز تنسيق للترويج لأنشطة الأمم المتحدة ونشر مواد الأمم المتحدة الإعلامية.

The draft resolution recounts in its preambular paragraphs the history of the University for Peace, from its establishment by the General Assembly in resolutions 34/111 of 14 December 1979 and 35/55 of 4 December 1980, to resolution 50/41 of 8 December 1995, which requested the Secretary-General to consider ways to strengthen cooperation between the United Nations and the University for Peace.
ومشروع القرار في فقرات ديباجته يعيد سرد تاريخ جامعة السلم منذ أنشأتها الجمعية العامة بقراريها ٣٤/١١١ المؤرخ ١٤ كانون اﻷول/ ديسمبر ١٩٧٩ و ٣٥/٥٥ المؤرخ ٤ كانون اﻷول/ ديسمبر ١٩٨٠، ويشير إلى القرار ٥٠/٤١ المؤرخ ٨ كانون اﻷول/ ديسمبر ١٩٩٥، الذي يطلب إلى اﻷمين العام أن ينظر في سبل تعزيز التعاون بين اﻷمم المتحدة وجامعة السلم.

61. With regard to the report of the Secretary-General on cooperation between the Department of Public Information and the University for Peace in Costa Rica (A/AC.198/2001/6), the Department noted that the relationship between the Organization and the University was a long-standing one that dated back to the 1970s.
61 - وفيما يتعلق بتقرير الأمين العام بشأن التعاون بين إدارة شؤون الإعلام وجامعة السلم في كوستاريكا (A/AC.198/2001/6)، ذكرت الإدارة أن العلاقة التي تربط المنظمة بالجامعة هي علاقة طويلة الأمد تعود إلى السبعينات.
